Might take off... right - the plane has left the airport man. Building Information Modeling is revolutionizing the Architectural and Civil industries right now. My take on why its taking off as rapidly as it is you ask? Forever architects have avoided putting too much detail onto a drawing, rather they use symbols to represent components that are all manufactured. Why? Speed and scale. Who wants to draw every light fixture in a 100 story building? It's just not practical, or at least it wasn't.
That's how BIM is revolutionizing architecture. Multiple disciplines all working on the same building model, informing the design so that it is as complete a digital model as will be in its completed physical state. This includes all those fancy trinkets y'all manufacture - light fixtures, HVAC systems, chairs, and all that other stuff that gets put into a building. And imagine if your stuff could fit seamlessly into the architects tools so that they don't have to fuss with translation, orientation, colors, and other design aspects that you have already put into the model. Ah, how marketing of me...
But seriously, if you are sending your architectural counterparts .SAT files, or 2D submittals, you might want to get into this line. This one right here, its like the Southwest A1-A30 line. Pick your own seat, this BIM thing is taking off and if you manufacture anything that is placed into or onto a building...check this out:
Now where are my drink coupons? Have a great weekend!
